nEXT Features
Exceptional Performance
Conventional turbomolecular pump rotors
are designed to deliver either high speed or high compression. To eliminate
this compromise the blade arrangements on the nEXT rotor have been totally
re-designed to optimise pump performance and achieve both higher speeds and
higher compression. The end result is an
exceptional pumping performance for a pump of its size.
Field Proven Reliability
Edwards are one of the largest producers
of turbomolecular pumps in the world. Our STP pumps are the industry standard
for magnetically levitated turbomolecular pumps and are the pump of choice in
the most demanding of semiconductor applications. Equally our range of EXT and
nEXT turbomolecular pumps have become standard fit in many of the analytical instruments
and R&D establishments over the last two decades, combined this equates to
over 200,000 pumps in the field.
We are proud to have developed a strong
reputation for our turbomolecular pumps amongst the top analytical instrument
manufacturers in the world. In buying an Edwards nEXT turbomolecular pump you
can be certain that you are getting a pump based on field proven technology
with a track record on reliability to match.
End-user Serviceability
The Edwards nEXT turbomolecular pumps
are truly end user serviceable in just minutes… you can do it!
In a conventional turbomolecular pumps
the bearing is supported both axially and radially by damping elastomers. While
these provide some damping of rotor vibration such that it is not transmitted
to the pump body, the characteristics of these can change in time leading to
increased vibration levels.
The lower bearing on Edwards nEXT
turbomolecular pump is hard mounted into a special suspension system and the damping
elastomers eliminated. This suspension system is designed to be stiff in the
axial direction which ensures precise rotor positioning, but more compliant
radially which absorbs vibration. These low vibration levels are maintained for
the life of the pump.
When changing the pump bearing, the
rotor does not need to be re-balanced enabling the end user to complete the
service in the field without the use of complex tooling, jigs, fixtures or
indeed major disassembly.

Applications & Derivatives
The nEXT platform has been designed with
flexibility and customisation in mind. This has enabled us to utilise our
extensive knowledge of applications and pumping requirements to deliver
optimised tailored solutions to your application challenges. To maximise the flexibility
of the nEXT platform splitfow variants are available to suite a wide range of
applications.
It is possible to rapidly develop
customised nEXT pumps to customer specifications using off the shelf “starting”
components and customising as required. This approach brings minimum design and
deliver time, maximum performance, and the most compact product for a given
specification.
